Why do you think it is that eating "healthy" in this country is so expensive?
MacDonald’s is a prime example. Why do they price their salads at 4 bucks a pop and then offer double cheese burgers for 99 cents? Last time I checked, a head of lettuce was less than $1.00. Do you think if fast food establishments made their salads/healthier menu items less expensive people would be more inclined to eat those things?
Because they aren’t charging for the price of the goods but how much of a meal it is. After you buy the .99 burger, you need a $1.20 drink and $1.40 worth of fries.
People are willing to pay more for the "healthy" meal because they figure it’s worth it.
But I agree, they are ripping people off.

Yes, this is what I think……….I personally eat good…not great…..I would prefer to eat all organic, non-pestaside saturated food…..but Whole Foods, compared to Pathmark, is way to expensive……A 2 liter bottle of soda is sometimes 2 for $1.00 and 16oz of Pom is 4.99 go figure.References :
This is a problem in many countries. Healthy food is too expensive probably because using chemicals in food could be more profitable for big companies.References :
I don’t think it’s so much that healthy things are so expensive as unhealthy things are so cheap. Part of that is because of the shortcuts they make in food prep to cut costs.
For all that McD’s is now offering salads, they’re really not all that much healthier. Take a look at the nutritional info they print on the back of their salad dressing packets, especially the so-called ‘lite’ dressings. For starters, the packets are too big. But the worst part is that they have 2 or 3 times as much sodium as you need. The next time you’re in a grocery store, look at the sodium levels on the dressings in the dressing aisle. You’ll find that the best dressings have under 200 mg of sodium.
Sure, eating healthier is more expensive if you’re eating out. But that’s because the people who are likely to order such things are willing to pay an extra buck or two to avoid the grease. We’re a fast food nation. We want it now and we want it tasty. I’m struggling with that personally. I’ve been told, and I really should listen at some point (lol), that the best way to prevent eating the bad things is to make the good stuff at home when you have the time so it’s ready for when you need something healthy fast.
On a side note, check out your local grocery store when you want something healthy fast. Most stores these days carry some premade salads or sandwiches. My personal favorite: Trader Joe’s. If you have one near you, check it out! Everything they sell is made just for them. A lot of it is organic or at the least healthier than the myriad of alternatives.References :
Yes and let’s face it even salads at McDonalds have sugar in them to preserve them longer.. Best bet is to stay away from Fast food and bring in Lunch to work !References :

i think the "shelf life" of fast foods is way more inexpensive than maintaining the quality of fresh foods.References :
