Will I be able to control my type 2 diabetes with a low carb diet such as Atkins?
Recently diagnosed with type 2, lost 17 pounds so far, blood sugar staying normal so far. On a Atkins and hoping for the best.
You really need to discuss this with your doctor. Not take the advice of some goofballs on here.

yes, i know people who regulate the diabetes with a dietReferences :
yes with exercise – consult a doctor though for periodic checks of the blood sugarReferences :
No, and you should check with your physician before beginning any type of diet especially having diabetes. It is great that you have lost weight, but remember the Atkins diet is a carb diet!!! Hello, CARBS, isn’t that what you are supposed to be watching and counting along with your sugar intake. Please be careful with the diabetes, I have known way too many people to die at a young age from not listening to their physicians and doing what they are supposed to do.References : Years of working in the medical field.
that is a good question. but..it depends how well managed your diabetes is and how disciplined you are. contact your doctor and ask him -her to get a consult with a dietition. they are great.you certainly can control and as your weight reduces so will your diabetes.also use exercise to keep your glucose down. its a proven winner.References : nurse
Nutritionists generally do not recognize the Atkins diet to be effective for diabetics. Good sources for information are http://www.diabetes.org and the website for the American Dietician Association.References :
You may be able to control your B.G. with diet only, but you should be aware of your sugar levels too, just to make sure that nothing else happens.
Atkins isn’t probably your best bet, because it’s not exactly a long-term diet. It gradually increases carbs back into your diet, yes.. but you should also avoid the high-fat foods that are "okay" with the Atkins diet.
You need some carbs, look for foods that are higher in fiber per serving, low to no sugars. Avoid white flours.
Remember that this isn’t just a "Diet for a while and it’ll go away" type disease. You have to find a diet that you can LIVE on for the rest of your life.References :
Sounds like you’re doing great! So many don’t even make a worthwhile effort . . continuing to consume a carb rich diet and compensating with meds.

If the Atkins diet is low carb and portion regulated , you should be able to work it into your program. Talk it over with your Doctor or Caregiver and get an Okay from them, before Altering Any Diabetic Regiment or Procedure.
