<p>Okay first&#8230;<br />
My dad is pre diabetic, but could be on the verge of type 2 I&#8217;m not sure&#8230; but anyways, for about three years he&#8217;s been keeping his bloodsugar under control with tablets, and his normal/healthy reading is about 6/7.5 &#8211; however, about about three months ago, he had to undergo shoulder sugery for a ripped tendon or something (nothing serious) and after that his bloodsugar went crazy which is apparently normal after surgery, and about a month after it went back to normal, and it was fine for about a month, but the past week or two, it&#8217;s been about 9, 9.5, sometimes 10&#8230;  and my two questions about this are<br />
a) is this a sign that maybe the tablets aren&#8217;t enough and he&#8217;ll have to go on insulin soon?<br />
b) will bloosugar at about 9/10 consistently cause long term damage to his health?<br />
c) why do you think his bloodsugar is going up? is it because of the surgery three months ago? opinions appreciated.</p>
<p>he&#8217;s 63 yrs old, weighs like 68kg (but he&#8217;s quite short&#8230; lol i mean short like 5&#8242;2) healthy weight (yes, he&#8217;s old considering i&#8217;m 13)<br />
and he&#8217;s actually very healthy, he swims about 4 times a week and my mum always feeds us a pretty healthy diet with a balances of carbs, proteins, veggies etc..</p>
<p>And my second question kind of relates to that..<br />
d) why is it that my dad with no family history, been reasonably healthy his whole life, never smoked, drinks in really good moderation, why is it that he gets pre diabetes, when it&#8217;s generally caused by an unhealthy lifestyle, or being overweight?<br />
i just don&#8217;t understand that&#8230;</p>
<p>but thanks in advance, all answers appreciated except any spam crap about acai berry or the ped egg or something stupid like that, because i&#8217;ll virtually punch you. </p>
<p>lol thanks i know this is kinda random, just worried about daddy <img src='http://healthier-eating.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif' alt=':D' class='wp-smiley' /><br />
<br />a) more likely, the doctor gave him a cortisone shot to control the inflammation and/or pain. Cortisone is known to not only raise blood sugar, but indeed, can actually cause type two diabetes. </p>
<p>b) Sustained high blood sugar (anything over 7 can be considered high) can cause many problems to health including neuropathy (nerve death) and organ failure.</p>
<p>c) see: a)</p>
<p>d) Despite common (mis)beliefs, type two diabetes is less a genetic disease and more of a lifestyle disease. Read up on &quot;Pima Indians&quot; and you will come to the same conclusion. My own experience, having gone from &quot;pre-diabetes&quot; (a misnomer if there ever was one) to full blown type two with out of control blood glucose to near normal thanks to super healthy diet and daily exercise, indicates unequivocally that, not only is type two diabetes reversible, it is absolutely curable. </p>
<p>The term &#8216;healthy&#8217; can have a wide variety of meanings. I was relatively healthy prior to being diagnosed. The cumulative effect of a diet rich in refined foods with their inherently poor nutrient to Calorie ratio is hard to detect until it&#8217;s too late. The good news is, super healthy, natural foods with loads of raw fruits and vegetables along with moderate daily exercise, can do miracles.</p>
<p>The other answerer continues to allege that T2DM is progressive. It is only progressive if you continue to eat the same lousy food that caused you to become diabetic. There are thousands of us who choose to eat a primarily raw vegetarian diet, who are living without drugs and insulin, and are doing just fine. So, do your research, try to convince Dad to live the life our bodies were designed to live, and he will see that I am right.</p>

I talk about what has given me inspiration and motivation (see links below) for weight loss.  I have been following a &#8220;mostly&#8221; raw food diet and tomorrow will start a beginner&#8217;s crossfit exercise program.  I used to weigh 280 pounds and am currenly in the 170&#8217;s, working to my next goal.  </p>
<p>I have type 2 diabetes with bad insulin resistance and have been told I probably have pcos (polycystic ovarian syndrome).  I used to take insulin and have been able to stop that.  I also had really high blood pressure, and it now runs low.  </p>

<p>I&#8217;ve been a diabetic for about 10 years, and not able to regulate my suger very well.  </p>
<p>Very simple instructions:  Take your blood sugar multiple times a day.  If it&#8217;s 125 or under, eat what you want for that meal.  If it&#8217;s 126 or over, only water until you hit 125 or below.  If your blood sugar drops below 100, take away one diabetic pill.</p>
<p>This sounds absolutely insane, but since nothing else has ever worked for me (I&#8217;m a terrible cheater on normal diets), I gave it a shot.</p>
<p>It&#8217;s been two weeks.  I&#8217;ve gone from 4 pills a day to 2.  I&#8217;ve lost 6 lbs.  My blood sugars are lower.</p>
<p>I have learned what really sends my sugar up (and keeps me fasting longer than I want to).  I&#8217;ve found I&#8217;m very careful, because if my sugar is up at next testing, I can&#8217;t eat again.  </p>
<p>The constant feedback really helps.  </p>
<p>My doc had to give me an Rx for 500 strips to get me started.  I check about 8 times a day.<br />
My question is, anybody else heard of this or tried this?</p>
<p>It seems so counter-intuitive, yet feedback is so powerful&#8230;.Thoughts?<br />
One additional note &#8212; this is NOT, I repeat NOT for type I diabetics.  He made sure to say it was very dangerous for a type I to try this.  </p>
<p>Typical type II people only (chubby, 40+ types!)<br />
<br />It does not sound like a good diet at all to me. It does not sound like good nutrition or good sense.</p>
